Myths
of the Sacred World

A
sacred world exists to be perceived in various forms, variable because
imagery is always influenced by contemporary cultures and clouded by each
culture’s history. It is the same sacred world however perceived.
It is in the entirety of the universe that the sacred world is concerned
as its links endlessly extend uniting the smallest elements with the whole.
As is apparent in intuition and the inherent consciousness of what is right or what is in tune with moment or place in evolution, minds are more clearly linked than the body as a personal unit, although elements of the nervous system might be considered as a broadcasting apparatus through which thought and non-verbal imagery can be received and transmitted.
It is from the sacred world that the stories and messages come to us as myth, a word unfortunately tainted in use as denoting something that can be refuted. In fact, a myth cannot be refuted by logic, only ineffectively by an incorrect assumption that, as it cannot be comprehended as being possible within the framework of common knowledge, it cannot hold any truth.
To dismiss the connections of our minds to external cosmic influences is akin to ignoring the influences of any sort of environment, whether humanoid, geophysical or political. From where else can true imagination arise, discounting imagination that can be attributed to logical thought which has derived something novel or rearranging what is already known?
It can be conceived that artists in all fields do not create entirely with their own educated talents; their imaginations, and the knowledge and ability they use to create, may well have received some direction from the sacred world (for want of a better terminology).
Between belief and disbelief there is a wide range in the degree of acceptance of opinions, facts, ideas or formed ideologies. The degree of acceptance can be seen with age and experience.
Skepticism may be a luxury of the mind necessary and useful in specific situations, but a hindrance to a broadening of the imagination, the ultimate luxury for a mind in action. It is a shame that the inherent imaginations of children are subdued to the extent expected in modern Western society.
At all ages dreams may be experienced, sometimes recognizably related to the observed real world and previous experiences of the dreamer. Often, however, elements of dreams deny such classifications although interpreters attempt to explain the imagery by references. Dreams can be experienced as myths. Some persons have the gift of an analogous experience in a conscious state truly nourished by the imagination. Those with that gift and having the ability to record the imaginings, are those of various cultures who leave us with skeletons of the myths embellished with local history.
The skeletal myths of all cultures around the Earth, are noticeably similar, which should indicate an influence from the same source, the sacred world.
Of importance, is to discern whether the influences from the sacred world are advantageous or detrimental if acted upon. That depends very much on the accuracy of the interpretation of what the influence might be.
Unfortunately, the earthly environment, as it envelops the interpreter, can distort the influence towards what is currently convenient. In many cases it would be safer if an individual withheld his or her interpretation from others at a personal level and just enjoy the experience of a cosmic connection.
The true poet is the strongest messenger of the revolving myths to the earth-bound, those myths revolving around the central cosmic truth in the sacred world. A poet must be aware of what is inherited from the distant Bardic past and be aware of the responsibility he or she holds to use imagination wisely, preferably for some benefit. Part of the possible benefit is to kindle awareness in others of the myths, so encouraging closer ties of membership in the same universe in which we exist Awareness is not necessarily knowledge. There can be disappointment in knowing. In awareness there is the stimulant, there is the flame of life.
We should acknowledge the great myths, wonder and be grateful they are ours for all to share if inclined.
It is possible that the messiahs of all religions were those gifted with an insight of the sacred world. Unfortunately, formalization of all religions has narrowed the focus of the faithful of each religion and the awareness of the sacred world has been blunted. If the common original stimulus to launch a religion could be better demonstrated,there would be more ecumenical tolerance.
There has been much study and many tomes have been written about myths especially in the Celtic community. It appears that most of the study and writing has been concerned with the detailed anatomy of myths rather than the physiology. The latter, as an exercise in extra-cerebral activity, is much more likely to encourage acceptance of the importance of myths as influences on our worldly lives.
It is encouraging that children are still told fairy stories when they are very young, it is a pity their interest in them wanes as they grow.
