There
are many pathogens that, when they infected a person, can cause mental
changes, whether affecting the memory or the victim’s personality
in ways that may be very obvious to others, but not so obvious to the
patient.
Glaring examples of these personality changes are found in those suffering from any of the diseases caused by the bite of a tick, mosquito, flea or midge. Those diseases include Lyme disease (Borreliosis), Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, Bartonella, Q fever, Mycoplasmas and others yet to be identified. They are generally lumped together as Tick-borne Diseases (TBDs)
Memory deficiencies are the most noticeable symptoms and are often associated with paranoia, withdrawal from themselves, those around them and society in general. As many of these patients appear normal as regards their physical condition, unless the diseases have caused obvious disabilities from nerve damage causing full or partial paralysis of some motor functions, those around them tend to disbelieve the patient is really ill, or has any disease, considering the patient just has mental aberrations from stress or other convenient cause that could explain the mental symptoms.
It may often take the patience and knowledge of one doctor to eventually diagnose that the patient has an infectious disorder causing the symptoms. Often the patient has seen 9 or 10 doctors of various specialties, including psychiatrists and specialists in infectious diseases, before the infectious disease is recognized. The dismissal of the true diagnosis by those who did not recognize the patient’s symptoms were due to an infection, not only delayed treatment that at an earlier stage could have ameliorated many of the symptoms, but also aggravated the mental state of the patient as well as depriving the patient of what finances would be left for the necessary treatment.
It is now estimated that there are, or soon will be, 500,000 cases of the TBDs in the United States alone. That estimate is calculated from the known reported cases and the estimate from the CDC that 9 out of 10 cases go unrecognized and not reported.
The disease or variants of them are increasing in Europe, the Balkans, Scandinavia and as far away as Australasia. No country can consider itself immune from the diseases, as the ticks can travel by bird, on planes on luggage, cargo or on passengers. Research has shown other methods of spread, from person to person through bodily secretions and from mother to fetus.
The foregoing is about infectious diseases we know can change personality directly by affecting the brain and indirectly by the ignorance of those who don’t recognize a patient has a physical illness. But other parasites that we are unaware of may well aggravate symptoms of TBDs but also affect personality on their own account. Those are the ones that can slyly change a personality in many ways without being recognized as the cause.
All of us carry thousands of organisms, bacteria, viruses and smaller organisms that, given a chance, will affect their hosts, you and I. Many are beneficial to our health and assist in a number of physiological processes necessary for our well- being. But others can change our personalities secretly by their influence on our brains and nervous systems.
Most of these organisms are descended from the primeval units of life that started billions of years ago, as we are ourselves. They live in other organisms, plants, every mammal, reptile, or bird. They are ubiquitous and collectively known as parasites.
Many of them have been identified, studied extensively, with some amazing conclusions as to their abilities. In a number of species of insects, shelled and free-swimming sea creatures and in mammals, the parasites have shown the ability to alter the sexual orientation of the ones they choose as hosts.
If they can change our sexual preferences, they certainly should have the ability to change personality in other devious ways. Perhaps the cruel dictators of this world, present and past, owe their personalities and brutalities to parasites.
I have previously mentioned in another essay that the pathogens on our planet take part in the scheme of things to limit the population. It is the slow deterioration of the immune system, after many battles to protect us from the micro and macro parasites, that eventually causes our bodies to deteriorate with age, limiting our lifespan. We help to limit the population by other ways, such as by killing each other, affecting our environment and abusing our biosphere. The biosphere does its part through earthquakes, floods, droughts, volcanic activity and other natural disasters.
But what we accept as natural disasters, are often due to the actions of ‘inventive’ men altering our environment, their inventiveness related to their forceful personalities, which according to my hypothesis, can be due to the parasites they harbor.
The reader must excuse the author for his overlong explanation for his own personality, which is kind, loving, forgiving, heterosexual, generous, positively delightful (as Professor Higgins might say), but peevish > when not appreciated, and all due to the parasites I harbor, or have harbored at some time, in this corpus mine.

o -Tick-borne Encephalitis;
0 -Mycoplasma;
o -Relapsing Fever;
0 -Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and others.
Never WAIT and SEE about a tick bite, please! Quickly and properly treated infections are less likely to progress to later stage or chronic disease.
Sometimes tick bites are
mistaken for spider bites!
Some diseases may be spread by animal bites or scratches and from mosquitoes, fleas or lice.

Watch closely for symptoms after tick bites. Some never see a tick or a bulls-eye rash.
